Girls’ tailoring-sewing course
Report by: Suraya Rahmati Bahar
A tailoring-sewing course for girls has been launched by financial assistance of Japan aid agency (JICA) and cooperation of Ministry of Labor and social affairs in Kabul city. Female students, who can not go to school due to their families’ poor economical condition or their parents ban, are busy in learning the tailoring-sewing course. At the end of this course that started 4 months ago in 2 time tables, graduated students will receive a sewing machine from JICA.
A student of the mentioned course said,” I could not go to school due to my family’s poor economical condition. All young male and female individuals need to choose a profession so that they will be able to generate their families’ financial costs. I have chosen tailoring profession and I am able to sew simple dresses now.”
Instructor of the course added that the students, who come to this course, are very poor or have lost their parents and can not go to schools. Besides, we give AFG 1000/month for their transportation costs. At the end of the course we will either employ them or give them a sewing machine so that they will be able to work at home.
A Kabul citizen appreciated the activity of such vocational courses and added that most people have not got the information about these kinds of courses. My opinion is that JICA should open the branches of this course in all areas of Kabul city. By doing this, most poor kids and youths will be able to join and after graduation start their jobs and generate their financial costs.
